This month has been so grim. And I have much to say on the grimness, but also on the good stuff. And it’s been a long day that began with me getting my finger dissected, so right now I feel like talking about good stuff! I want to post some pictures of Santa! And our tree! And festive festiveness, dammit!!
This year’s visit to Santa, which took place the weekend before last, began with tears and ended with suspicious tolerance. I’ll write more about our holiday traditions this year when I’ve got a second to catch my breath, but for now I’ll let these photos speak for themselves.
Last Sunday it was time for our now-annual trip to Macy’s Herald Square to see Santa, followed by lunch at Blue Smoke.
My sister-in-law Kathryn, my brother Rob, my 4-year-old niece Grace, and my 11-year-old nephew Kyle waiting in line for the Big Event. Kyle completely humors Grace, he’s really great with her. In truth, he comes along for the promise of barbeque. And I don’t blame him. Adam’s with me, and my mom is hanging out at Au Bon Pain waiting for us to come out the other side. With pictures.
Last year when we took my niece Grace to see Santa, it didn’t go so well. This year was so much better for her, and my nephew Kyle (who is 10) came, too. We went yesterday and had a great day, but I’ve been sick on and off this weekend and pretty much crashed when we got home.
Grace bounced up and down pretty much the entire time we were on line for Santa.
I’m kind of addicted to this site. The official tracking obviously doesn’t start until Christmas Eve, but the games in Kids’ Countdown are really fun, and I love the About Santa and About NORAD links. Lots of cool history about how NORAD came to be the official Santa trackers in the USA. News stations rely on their up-to-the-minute coverage of where St. Nick is now. It makes me wish I had some kind of NORAD-worthy skill so I could work there and volunteer on Christmas Eve to answer calls and emails.
