As a Mother’s Day present to my mom, I bought tickets for H, my mom, and I to go see Sleeping Beauty with the New Jersey Ballet. They were doing matinee performances at Mayo Performing Arts Center this past weekend, and it seemed like a great chance for a first ballet for H.
I like Mother’s Day. I’m still pretty new at it; I’ve had a great one, a not-so-great-one (poor destination choice), and an out-of-the-country one. So I’m still figuring out what to actually do on Mother’s Day to celebrate, and this year I feel like I’ve gotten the closest to what I want out of the day. First, here’s how I got to this realization.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there!
I really enjoyed my first Mother’s Day last year, but this year was even better. Maybe it’s just that with all the other insanity going on in my life these days I appreciate the complete awesome that is my family much, much more. Team Reeve is pretty great, and I love our life together more and more each day. Man, that was such a greeting card sentiment, but it’s actually true. I couldn’t stop smiling all day, I was just loving the celebration of this whole motherhood business so much.
I got my Spongebob Squarepants Mother’s Day card and gift certificates for Barnes & Noble and the Fat Quarter Shop first thing this morning. Best gifts, simple and no fuss! The Spanish F1 Grand Prix was this morning, so clearly that is becoming a bit of a Mother’s Day tradition. We got up to watch it live at 7:30am, and H and I hung out on the couch while Adam made waffles. Perfection.
I couldn’t have asked for a nicer first Mother’s Day (despite bad camera phone photos). I spend a lot of time thinking about being a mom, how my family has changed and grown, how much I love that little face that’s so much like Adam’s. But on Sunday I just wanted to be with them, making memories and not thinking so much.
My family came over to our house today to celebrate my mom. I made 2 chicken pot pies. We gave my mom a really pretty hydrangea. And we had these cupcakes.
