We just got back from our trip a little while ago, and we’re waiting for some Chinese food! I’m thrilled to be home; it was a great vacation, and now I’m ready to get back to real life.
Yesterday’s trip to Chichén Itzá was awesome.
Our ride picked us up late around 7:30am due to a misunderstanding, and he dropped us off at one of the more upscale malls in the Hotel Zone of Cancun. We paid for our tickets in the midst of a large souvenir shop attached to a restaurant. We had to wait there for about 20 minutes, and we were told we could buy breakfast from the buffet or shop in the store (the only thing open in the mall). We were given a 10% off coupon for both.
We had so much fun today that I’m fully recovered from my disappointments of yesterday. Might I just mention that I also lost my debit card yesterday? Yeah, only we didn’t realize that until we went to take cash out this morning. No idea where it is, but no one tried to use it so we were able to cancel it without drama. It’s not a holiday without some kind of crisis (my wallet stolen while studying abroad in Florence, Adam leaving our passports in a hotel safe in Dublin for a week, etc.).
We’ve had plumbing problems that got housekeeping up to our hotel room twice, my camera is fritzing out, and it’s only been 75 degrees today.
I made this turtle by the pool this morning. I love him, and I especially love how the guy who sells them decided to add his own swirly bits to the shell and head. He has been the highlight of the day. He was difficult to paint because it’s suddenly decided to get insanely windy here today. All my paints kept tipping over, and the rags blew all over the place.
Well, we made it. We’ve been incredibly lazy today, just sitting by the ocean under these great palm frond umbrellas (like in this photo). Then we sat by the pool. Then we ate at the pool restaurant, which was so good I’m still thinking about that fish taco and those chips and salsa. Then we sat at the pool again. Then we went into the pool. Swam up to the pool bar. Back to sitting by the pool. You get the idea.
