We got up bright and early this morning and headed over to the Hofburg Palace Complex. We stopped at the Schmetterling Haus (Butterfly House) and took photos. It was a wonderful place.
Then we split up to go to different museums in the complex. Adam and I went to the State Hall of the Austrian National Library. It’s this magnificent Baroque library finished in 1726 with a collection spanning from 1501-1850. The more modern collection is in a different building (which was closed), but this is the good stuff. There’s Adam wandering through the vast space.
We had lunch at Demel cafe, one of those places that’s been around since the 1700s. Then we headed to the Treasury. Lots of crowns and clothes that look really hot to wear.
And then I napped until dinnertime. We ate Wiener Schnitzel and braised pork at Greichenbeisl, a very Austrian restaurant that’s been around for more than 500 years. So they definitely know how to make Wiener Schnitzel by now. We strolled back to the hotel, and I snapped a photo of St. Stephan’s church.
Now I’m thoroughly exhausted and heading to bed. Tomorrow it’s off to an art museum and then shopping in the afternoon.
