This is one of those projects that’s been on my To Do list forever! Our door was so dirty and boring, it really needed a makeover. So this week, I gave it one.
First I needed to clean it, the whole front of the house under the porch was nasty.
A powerful hose and Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day All Purpose Cleaner got it ready for paint.
I started out with Heritage Red from Benjamin Moore, in an exterior door finish.
This photo above is after just one coat inside. I got 5 coats of that red on and let it dry overnight before deciding that it was actually way too brown on the inside. It wasn’t shiny enough OR red enough for me. But I wasn’t satisfied with the other reds Benjamin Moore had to offer, so after going back out in search of the perfect red I ended up with Glidden’s Candy Apple in high gloss. Three more coats of that, and the door was perfectly shiny and perfectly red. No brown here.
I needed this shot of color, it’s cheered me right up.
🙂 Cheered me up too!
I love your red door. I think it is cool that you painted both sides of the door. Our front door is green on the outside and white on inside. After seeing the red on the inside, my front door is boring.
it looks FANTASTIC. one of the things i’m most bummed about regarding the fact that we’re buying a townhouse is that we aren’t allowed to paint our door something bright and cheerful.
