I bought some of Tula Pink’s Nightshade fabric over the summer, and I’m just cutting into it for this year’s Halloween project. I actually really wanted the purple colorway, but I caught a sale and the shop had run out of the purple. I do like this kind of greenish slate colorway, but I’m not feeling the love for what I’ve done with it so far.
I bought the fabric for the witches, I adore them. But I just bought half yards of the other fabrics and am not sure what to do with something this small (it’ll probably end up smaller than 4′ square at this point). I’m never good at making quilts just to make them, I always need a purpose. I have a much lighter 5th fabric for the backing (the Apothecary print), and I’m trying to decide if I should use it as sashing between these blocks, to make this closer to throw size and add a little dimension and contrast. As it is now, I feel like the blocks aren’t distinctive enough on their own.
I don’t know, what do you think?
It has possibilities. Perhaps some black and purple in the sashing and borders. Black or purple sashing would make these blocks pop. It could be fairly side sashing, maybe 2 inches. Or sew black and purple strips together and make double sashing then add an inside border of the same and then a wider border.
Without more black and some purple (or orange) it will not have that Halloween look.
I was wondering what you did with the quilt. I love the Nightshade pattern by Tula Pink. I think she is an absolute great designer.
Thanks, Laura! I’m still stuck with this fabric. I got as far as these blocks with it and stopped. It’s in my UFO pile at the moment until I can get inspired with some ideas for finishing it!
