So I signed up for the second class in the Wilton cake decorating class series, but I missed the first day for Back to School Night last week. I had major catching up to do.

I’m taking this class to really finish the whole set (fondant is up in November!!), but this one isn’t really my thing. It’s all about making flowers. Tons of flowers. Mums, violets, apple blossoms, roses. And basketweave on cakes. The basketweave will be cool, but I can’t think of many times in my life when I’ll be struck by the urge to make a cake dripping in flowers.

But I did learn to make this bird. I need more practice to keep him from looking deformed, but how cool is he?
