I liked this book, I really wanted to love it, but I didn’t. Garth Stein’s The Art of Racing in the Rain is the story of brilliant race car driver Denny as told through the eyes of his dog, Enzo. Enzo wishes he was a man so that he could communicate all the things he observes. And on his deathbed, Enzo looks back on his life with Denny: Denny’s marriage to Eve, the birth of their daughter Zoe, Eve’s death from brain cancer, and the bitter 3-year custody battle over Zoe. All of these events are related by Enzo, who uses great racing metaphors to talk about the human spirit.
