The story of the King’s Road lion, adopted from Harrod’s in London by two young men in 1969, seems to be popping up a lot this week. No less than three people told me about the video of John Rendall and Ace Bourke visiting Christian after he was brought to Africa to live in the wild, and it’s amazing. And here is a link to the full story of Christian’s year as a swinging Londoner and his trip to Africa, which is also an incredible story. The YouTube video suggests it was a year after Christian went to Africa that the two young men went to see him, but according to the article it was in 1974.
Here’s more information on George Adamson, the conservationist who brought Christian to Africa and was murdered by poachers in 1989.
