This quilt top came together so quickly, I loved making it.
The postcard pattern actually called for wider sashing strips, but I had a bunch of Robert Kaufman Kona cotton jelly roll strips in Snow and decided to stash bust with those. So my sashing strips are 2.5″ wide, and my “postcards” are 4″x6″. Which is what the original pattern called for, not adding any additional seam allowance to the size.
I chain pieced all of the various sections, which made this top come together lightning quick. I was honestly surprised how fast this quilt came together, I thought it would take much longer.
I pieced the back of this quilt using these 2 fabrics from my Hawaii purchases, too. And attached the label before quilting it, I always do that. I am horribly impatient when it comes to blindstitching, so I’d rather zigzag those patches down.
I’m loving this throw-sized quilt a lot, I really am.
Hi Jackie, Love this quilt–you;re a talented and ambitious girl! I’m building quite a stash of Hawaiian fabrics, both those purchased at the Aloha Bowl Swap Meet and Pearl City fabricmart.com—where we serendipitously got bumped from an Air Force space available flight. Also, I buy whatever I can find at local thrift shops and yard sales. Can hardly wait to get going on this. What size is your finished quilt? I’d like to make ours a coverlet size for a queen sized bed. Is there a place to go online to get dimensions? Thanks for your reply.
Thanks, Ginger! Here was the last post on that project: http://www.jackiereeve.com/2012/04/27/go-to-your-happy-place-quilt-is-finished/
The finished size was about 61″ x 69″, so lap size. It would be easy to make it into a queen size, that’s a great idea!
