I can’t believe the end of March is finally coming this week. It’s always such a long month, but it’s also a great time with my students, knee-deep in library projects. Here’s what’s been happening in library class this month:
My special needs classes have been reading Dr. Seuss stories, and we made these Horton ears last week.
The kindergartners have finished our Mo Willems unit and completed that rite of passage in Mrs. Reeve’s library class, the ceremonial drawing of The Pigeon. They are ready for 1st grade now!
The 1st graders finished our Caldecott unit and completed their rite of passage in Mrs. Reeve’s library class, the ceremonial House in the Night-inspired drawings. Love them this year!
The 2nd graders have finished The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We laughed. We cried. Watching them explode with excitement when I get to that last page and we realize what’s happening is my new favorite feeling. I’m totally reading this with them again next year. Next week we start our book reviews of Edward Tulane, which I’ll be hanging up with the pictures they’ve already drawn.
The 3rd graders took a break from reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret to learn how to use Google Earth. This is one of my favorite things to teach, very excited.
And finally, the 4th graders are up to chapter 13 in The Maze of Bones. I’m really hoping I can squeeze everything I have left to do with them in before the end of the year. That’s the only grade that will be tight to finish our novel, but I think we’re in good shape so far.
