So I’ve mentioned my current obsession with Amy Atlas’s dessert tables and my new mission for fabulus color-coordinated parties. In my continuing quest for this, I ordered some food coloring gels and powders to experiment with cookies and frosting. My vision is to make cookie balls that I can then enrobe in brightly colored royal icing.
So I’ve been geeking out all day, and I’m not ashamed. I attended BEA09 just for today, even though the convention has been happening since Thursday. I went on my own, outside of work, so I didn’t take any days off to go. It was a whirlwind day spent going from one line to the next, getting autographs and galleys, and making several trips across the street to the lot with my car so I could dump all my goodies. Three trips to the car because I had too many great books to carry around. I didn’t get to as many of the conference events as I would have liked, but this just means that next year I’ll have to try and come for the full event. So my experience was mainly signings and galleys.
This cute guy lives under those stairs in our backyard. He’s been digging a bigger and bigger whole since spring started (and making a huge dirt pile). Now we’ve found his other hole, a “back door” by our air conditioner unit near the side of the house. And we see a groundhog (possibly him, possibly not) going under the shed in the yard behind ours. He’s building an empire under our yard, so Adam decided today he has got to go. Any suggestions?

The quilting is done! Now I have to square it up and bind it. I used a blueish/almost teal colored Gutermann thread for the quilting, and I’m happy with it. I almost quilted with orange thread, but there’s already a great deal of orange in this, and I wanted to bring out the blue/green more.
This is so lemony I don’t even know what to do with myself. The recipe from Giada’s Kitchen manages to be both a hearty risotto and a lemony spring treat. I made this as a side dish with another recipe from this Giada de Laurentiis book, Chicken Scalloppine with Saffron Cream Sauce (I’ll post that one later). It’s delicious.
Lemon Risotto (adapted from Giada’s Kitchen)
Serves: 4 main sizes, 8 side-dish sizes
**I halved this recipe and got enough for 2 side dishes, seconds for Adam, and a little left over for lunch.
